Is treatment in a preoperative anemia clinic effective?Short Communication

Preoperative anemia occurs in at least a third of patients before elective surgery and is a significant and at the same time modifiable risk factor for increased perioperative morbidity and mortality. Treatment in a preoperative anemia clinic may improve outcomes. Patients are evaluated at least 3 weeks before elective surgery to allow time for treatment of iron-deficiency anemia or further testing and follow-up care.
