A national working group representing clinicians, microbiologists, and different specialist medical societies and working groups prepared evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of established invasive fungal infections. In this article, the first one of a series of three, the evidence criteria of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) used for assessing the quality of clinical trials, and EORTC/MSG Consensus Group for definitions of invasive fungal disease, are presented.
