Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) - Case ReportIntesive Care Medicine - Case Report

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an immune-mediated demyelinisation of the brain and spinal cord, precipitated by a infection or vaccination. In the past ADEM was a rare disease with higher incidence recently. Although history, clinical and radiological presentations are typical for this disease, the diagnosis is made per exclusionem. ADEM requiring ICU admission is a severe disease causing high mortality and persistent disability. Authors describe course of illness in one patient, diagnostic process a and therapy with corticosteroids, IVIG a plasmapheresis.
