Hladíková Andrea, Olos Tomáš, Hladík Michal, Šilhánová Eva
Anest. intenziv. Med. 2012;23(4):183-187
The authors would like to make you aware of the unpredictable effects of anaesthetic agents in children with Angelman syndrome (a rare neuro-genetic disorder characterized by intellectual and developmental disability, epilepsy, sleep disturbance, seizures, jerky movements - especially hand-flapping, frequent laughter or smiling, usually a happy demeanour, microcephaly, plagiocephaly, prominent mandible, wide mouth, wide-spaced teeth, hypopigmentation, tongue thrusting, suck/swallowing disorders). Especially vagal hypertonia resulting in cardiac rhythm disturbances and asystole should be considered in the peri-operative care of these patients. Their...

Poljaková Iveta
Anest. intenziv. Med. 2012;23(4):188-196
The review article describes current advances in the control of impaired glucose metabolism in the perioperative and intensive care setting. It includes the use of continuous glucose monitoring systems, the development of closed-loop glycaemic control devices and discusses the measures for perioperative hyperglycaemia reduction.

Introduction:One of the options for microcirculation monitoring is sidestream dark field imaging (SDF). The goal of this study was to assess the interobserver and intraobserver variability of SDF during an experiment simulating rupture of the abdominal aorta on a porcine model. Methods:The interobserver variability was evaluated sublingually and in the ileostoma. Two investigators (skilled and novice) analyzed the recordings blindly. The interobserver variability was evaluated using the Bland Altman analysis. The results are shown as percentage bias and limits of agreement. Bias > 15% was considered as significant. The...
International expert statement on training standards for critical care ultrasonographyConsensual statement

Anest. intenziv. Med. 2012;23(4):203-208
Training in ultrasound techniques for intensive care medicine physicians should aim at achieving competencies in three main areas: (1) general critical care ultrasound (GCCUS), (2) ''basic'' critical care echocardiography (CCE), and (3) advanced CCE. A group of 29 experts representing the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and 11 other critical care societies worldwide worked on a potential framework for organizing training adapted to each area of competence. This framework is mainly aimed at defining minimal requirements but is by no means rigid or restrictive: each training organization can be adapted according to resources available....
