Anest. intenziv. Med. 2016;27(5):277-283
Hypotension following induction to general anaesthesia occurs frequently in clinical practice. The aim of our narrative review was to offer a summary of the literature data dealing with the issue. Absolute blood pressure values and relative decrease in pressure are discussed, suggesting the limits which cannot be tolerated and require intervention. Hypotension after induction to general anaesthesia is associated with increased postoperative mortality and prolonged hospital length of stay. It also presents one of a few potentially responsive factors influencing postoperative morbidity and mortality.

The article presents the current view of the Section for Obstetric Anaesthesia and Analgesia of ČSARIM (SPAA ČSARIM) on non-obstetric anaesthesia during pregnancy. The article first discusses the various risks associated with the administration of anaesthesia in pregnant women. Then we describe the various stages of the perioperative process in relation to non-obstetric anaesthesia in pregnant women. At the end we present examples of the anaesthetic management of specific types of procedures.
The 2016 definition of sepsis (Sepsis-3)Intesive Care Medicine - Review Article

Anest. intenziv. Med. 2016;27(5):302-308
Sepsis represents a life-threatening condition characterized by dysregulated host response to infection. Various definitions and criteria for sepsis, severe sepsis, septic shock and organ dysfunction were used in the past, giving rise to contradictions in the results of the reported data regarding sepsis. Recently, "The Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock (Sepsis-3)" created by the task force of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine was published in 2016.
Echocardiography in the acute coronary syndromeReview Article
M. Pořízka
Anest. intenziv. Med. 2016;27(5):309-314
Echocardiography is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that provides information regarding heart function and haemodynamics. It is essential both for diagnosing the acute coronary syndrome, evaluation of the ventricular function and the presence of regional wall motion abnormalities, and for ruling out other etiologies of acute chest pain or dyspnoea. It also provides timely and accurate diagnosis in the haemodynamically unstable patients presenting with myocardial infarction complications including cardiac tamponade, severe mitral regurgitation or ventricular septal defect. This review focuses on the current role of echocardiography in patients with...

Objective:Quantification of the incidence of CPR-related injuries in unsuccessfully resuscitated out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. Design:Retrospective observational study. Setting:Regional emergency medical services. Materials and methods:The study included the autopsy protocols of all 107 patients unsuccessfully resuscitated fol-lowing non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the year 2015. We identified all the patients with CPR-related trauma. These patients' medical reports from the emergency information system were then analysed. They were compared to all the 394 resuscitations...
Body temperature in the anaesthetised childDětská anestezie a intenzivní medicína - Přehledový článek

Anest. intenziv. Med. 2016;27(5):320-326
Perioperative hypothermia is a serious complication of anaesthesia and is associated with many adverse consequences, including circulatory instability, respiratory depression and prolonged effects of the anaesthetics. The greatest caution should be applied to newborns and young children who are more prone to perioperative decrease in body temperature because of their relatively large body surface area and a thin layer of subcutaneous fat. The main mechanisms of heat loss in the operating theatre are conduction and radiation, convection and evaporation. Optimum thermal homeostasis during anaesthesia in children can be achieved through combining various...
