Based on the literature search, we must conclude that there are insufficient data to recommend when to leave gasping as the only mode of ventilation during resuscitation in patients with cardiac arrest and when to use standard CPR using a 30:2 ratio of chest compressions and artificial ventilation with possible use of anaesthetics and muscle relaxants. Ačkoliv prvé učebnice celkové anestezie vyšly již v r. 1847, anestezii dětí byla věnována malá pozornost. Autor článku uvádí, že ještě na začátku 20. století byly specifikům anestezie v dětském věku věnovány z anesteziologických monografií maximálně 1–2 stránky z celkových 300. Prvou specializovanou učebnici publikoval pravděpodobně až Christopher Langton Hewer v r. 1923. Krátký článek popisuje obsah knihy, která měla 111 stran rozdělených do 8 kapitol a obsahovala 26 ilustrací. Ze zajímavostí lze zmínit doporučení provádět pro zajištění dýchacích cest laryngotomii místo tracheální intubace ústy, přičemž se éter či chloroform kapal na gázu umístěnou v široké části nálevky připojené na trubičku zavedenou do laryngotomie. Již tehdy se kladl důraz na udržování hydratace, v té době podáváním roztoků rektálně; z knihy jsou citovány i některé další techniky.
